Red envelopes (紅包) are used to give money on holidays or for other celebrations like weddings or birthdays. These gifts of money, also known as "lai see" (利是), are usually given in pairs, with the same amount of money, preferably crisp new bills, in each envelope. Envelopes are usually given from older generations to those in younger generations. Read more on Wikipedia.
Our envelopes are available with Traditional characters (most commonly used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau) or Simplified characters (Mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia)
- In 2025, January 29 is the start of the Lunar New Year. It is the Year of the Snake in the Chinese Zodiac. The card has the Chinese characters for Happy New Year.
- In 2025, October 6th marks the full moon in the eighth month of the lunar calendar. Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon or Mooncake Festival, is a harvest festival celebrated by Chinese and other Asian cultures.
Using her tablet, our artist Gemma meticulously drew and traced all of the elements on these red money pockets. These envelopes are handmade from a medium weight red cardstock, and finished with sparkly gold foil. They fit a Canadian or American bill without folding.
